Welcome to Late to the Party

My name is Charlotte and I am always late to the party. Literally and metaphorically. I turn up to social events later than I should, and I never jump on a bandwagon until everyone else is already over it. I watch movies too late and wonder why no one talks about them anymore, I read Substack articles that are a year out of date, and I don’t buy into trends until people are already looking to wear something else. That lateness is entirely accidental - I find myself too unorganised to look at the ‘now’. The parties, however, is deliberate; I am the asshole who believes it's fashionable to be late to everything (apart from reservations #respectyourservers). So, all things considered it made sense to name my publication as such. Plus, my first article was about being late, so it all worked together.

I started Substack because like most, I love to write. I love to tell stories and put words together and watch them flow into one thought. I love the idea of being able to share my ideas with that world and other people finding something within them, whether it's reliability, enjoyment or something to take away and think about.

I have big plans for my Substack that I keep close to my chest, and hope to one day make a living from my writing and get paid to share my thoughts. I am however, only at the start of my journey and I'm excited to be here!

So, Late to the Party is here, and I welcome readers with open arms. I'm inspired by the likes of Dolly Alderton and Angelina Hazzouri, and LTTP will be a lot of reflective essays, embarrassing experiences and moments in my life I need to overthink and overshare. So, here is a list of things that inspire to write, and what to expect from this page <3:

• travel - I love love love to travel! My goal in life is to experience as much as possible, so travelling everywhere is the dream. My current destinations I am so eager to explore are Dublin (and Irish countryside at that), New York, and Iceland

• music - I am a big music lover, both enjoyer and player, and most of my spending in the last couple of years has gone towards concert tickets...forgive me. My favourite artist is Djo, my favourite artist to see in concert was Lorde, and Glastonbury 2027 is quite literally calling my name.

• socialising - I am a social butterfly on the bad days, and there is nothing I love more than getting dressed up, seeing my girls and having fun! I'm always up for trying something new, drinks or no drinks, and I'm partial to anything that lets me put on a cute outfit x

• fashion - my lifelong passion, I love everything from vintage shopping to runway couture. I'm always thriving to add more to my already buldging wardrobe, and whenever anyone is ready to invite me to fashion week, I am here and waiting (nonchalantly of course)

• growing up and growing old - I'm at a stage in my life which feels like a continuous set of intense cross roads, which creates a stressful environment in my head, but a perfect situation for late night writing. Everything is changing and I'm learning and growing everyday, and appreciating the moments around me

• reading - when I was in primary, I got told off for reading in class, which I think says everything you need to know about me. Vogue articles, classic feminist literature, hockey romance books, I am not picky. My favourite authors are, as said, the queen herself Dolly Alderton, Coco Mellors, and my recent favourite read was The Secret History

• relationship - all of them. Romantic, platonic, heart aching devotion to another, the people you only meet at parties. Human connection is sacred and beautiful and something I find vastly interesting and overwhelmed by in the best way possible

I could speak for hours about the inspiration around me but in a nutshell, that is me! I get so much of my inspiration from the ‘mundane’ and the beauty in the small things, but on a bigger scale, I find these topics my favourite to write about.

In specifics, Late to the Party is about creating a community; a party if you will. Expect thoughts and stories straight from the heart, advice columns, life lessons, occasional recipes, and recommendations from a girl who is trying to be a little bit glamourous and have fun every day.
